Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Michelle Rempel, Shadow Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued a statement regarding the Trudeau government’s decision to vote in favor of the Conservative Opposition Day motion:

“The Liberal status quo has failed to bring justice for victims of ISIS. That is why Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives put forward a common sense motion calling on Justin Trudeau to prioritize the rights of victims of ISIS. The Prime Minister can accomplish this by tabling a plan to immediately bring justice to Canadians who acted as ISIS terrorists.

“Despite supporting the Conservative motion, the Prime Minister cannot be trusted to actually take action once the cameras have stopped rolling.

“This is evidenced by the fact that the Trudeau government has previously voted in favor of Conservative motions and has failed to take action. For example, in 2016 the Trudeau government committed, and failed to take action on the full scope of a previous motion regarding the Yazidi genocide.

“This happened again when the Trudeau government voted to immediately list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a listed terrorist under the Criminal Code of Canada. It has been nearly four months, and yet the Prime Minister has so far failed to follow through on this commitment.

“Justin Trudeau has to date, failed to take action on key commitments. Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives will hold him accountable to ensure he tables a plan that will take concrete action and change his status quo and serve justice to anyone who left our country to fight with ISIS.”
