Conservatives call for Liberal government to provide advice for half and fully-vaccinated Canadians

May 13, 2021, Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner, Conservative Shadow Minister for Health, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Services and Procurement, issued the following statement regarding the need for the government to issue advice for Canadians who have been vaccinated:

“Following the announcement that many Canadians may not be offered the opportunity to become fully vaccinated until the fall, Conservatives have asked for clarity surrounding guidance for Canadians who are half-vaccinated and those who are fully immunized.

“The Centre for Disease Control in the United States today issued guidance for fully vaccinated Americans, stating that they ‘can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing,” with some exceptions. Yet, fully-vaccinated Canadians remain left in the dark wondering when similar advice will come from their federal government.

“The Prime Minister has said that it is likely that many Canadians will only be half-vaccinated this summer. It is the government’s job to provide clarity to Canadians on what this means for them. The Liberal government has not issued any clear advice for half-vaccinated Canadians about their level or protection, their risk of transmitting COVID, and what restrictions do or do not apply to them.

“With only three per cent of Canadians being fully vaccinated, and months before many Canadians will have access to two doses, we need a path forward. Clear advice on this issue, as other countries like the United States have provided, will provide hope and encourage Canadians to get vaccinated. For that reason, we are calling upon the federal government to issue this advice as soon as possible.”
