Liberals cover for the Prime Minister’s Office

June 23, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON — Raquel Dancho, Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Safety, Dane Lloyd, Conservative Shadow Minister for Emergency Preparedness, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Services and Procurement, released the following statement after Liberal members of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU) blocked a Conservative motion that would require those in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) with knowledge of discussions with the RCMP to provide answers to the SECU committee regarding allegations of political interference in the 2020 Nova Scotia Mass Murder:
“Instead of being transparent and open with Canadians, Trudeau’s Liberal members of the committee are actively and shamefully covering for their boss and blocked the committee from getting answers from the Prime Minister’s Office. Sadly, the NDP and Bloc members of the committee chose to abstain from the vote and allowed the Prime Minister and the Liberal government to hide from accountability.
“When we learned of these serious allegations of political interference in the RCMP’s investigation of the Nova Scotia mass killing, it was clear that the pressure and interference came right from the top.
“We cannot get to the truth until Canadians hear directly from those in the Prime Minister’s office with knowledge or involvement in pressuring the RCMP commissioner to advance the Liberal’s political agenda.
“We have seen this before. Just like with the SNC Lavalin and WE Charity scandals, the Trudeau government denies, deflects, and seeks to pin the blame on others. The Liberals are putting their own interests above those of Canadians and the integrity of our highest democratic and public institutions.
“While we are deeply disappointed, we also know it is not too late to change course.
“We are urging the Liberal, NDP, and Bloc members of the committee to do the right thing and call on those involved from the Prime Minister’s Office to come to committee and tell their side of the story.
“Conservatives will continue to fight for the truth and hold the government to account for their appalling behaviour on behalf of all Canadians.”
