Repatriation to Canada of Jack Letts

Québec, February 09, 2018 – CBC News is reporting that Jack Letts, dubbed “Jihadi Jack” by British media, is currently being held by Kurdish militants. He was captured by the Kurdish YPG militia in May after escaping Raqqa. He and his parents have requested the help of the Canadian government to bring him to Canada. Conservative MP and Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Mr. Pierre Paul-Hus is strongly opposed to this request.

Conservatives believe that any individual who took up arms against Canada and our allies by joining ISIS should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Unfortunately, the Liberals have shown a preference for “reintegration” over prosecution. The idea that anyone who signed up to be a part of ISIS can be reformed is completely naïve, and puts Canadians at risk. The Liberals must be transparent with Canadians about their plan to deal with returning ISIS terrorists, especially when those same terrorists appeal directly to Justin Trudeau for help returning to Canada.

Conservatives have given the Liberals the tools they need to hold ISIS terrorists accountable, and to protect Canadians. It is shameful that in case after case they are unwilling to use them. “Currently, nothing is done to control these terrorists when they return to Canada; on the contrary Justin Trudeau welcomes them with open arms. Is the Prime Minister aware of the danger these people, like Jack Letts also known as ‘Jihadi Jack,’ represent?” said MP Pierre Paul-Hus.

The Liberals should be focused on providing support to survivors of ISIS violence, such as Yazidi refugees, and not on providing health care and other services to ISIS terrorists who wish to come back to Canada.
